Ukulele Week 1

Slowly but surely this inquiry is coming together. This week I set up a time to pick up my ukelele that I am renting from the University. I am a bit nervous and anxious to teach myself how to play an instrument since I was never really good at it in elementary school when we learned to play the ukulele and the recorder. This inquiry is definitely going to be interesting.

When I got my ukulele I took it home and attempted to tune it off of a sound I was hearing; thus it did not go as planned. I would not say I have a musical ear and this was definitely not the correct route to take if you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.

Problem-solving 101: I then, using my small but evident technology skills and downloaded an app that when I strum a string, it hears it through my phone and tells me how far off I am from it being in tune, giving me negative and positive numbers. This took me quite some time. Eventually, it is now tuned and ready to go!

I was also looking into taking a lesson or two to help me get the ball rolling..

So, next week I am taking time to figure out different sites that can help me on this journey..

Now to decide what song I am going to learn!

Ukulele – Free Inquiry

I have decided to make my free inquiry on learning the ukulele. Now, I was terrified to have a music class this semester. In elementary school, when we first learned the Ukulele’s, I was so horribly bad I got put into a group of a few other people that were just as bad, and we were told to strum every 3 seconds to look as if we were playing it. This was humiliating. I am hoping now, at age 23, I can figure out how to play it!

I will be blogging my progress with videos, images, goals, and how it’s going throughout the semester.

Stay tuned!
